Novak Djokovic says he wants to play at Wimbledon ‘at least once’ after semi-final loss to Jannik Sinner | Tennis News

Novak Djokovic says he wants to return to Wimbledon “at least one more time” and feels no pressure to continue his tennis career.

Djokovic has been chasing a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title – the most of any man or woman – over the past two years and his latest attempt came to an end on Friday when he lost in straight sets to Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals.

The 39-year-old beat Sinner in the last four of the Australian Open earlier this year but lost in the final to Carlos Alcaraz.

“I would love to [return to Wimbledon]at least once. Let’s see,” said Djokovic.

Djokovic has reached the semi-finals of all four majors in 2025 with one final and one semi-final so far this year ahead of next month’s US Open, live. Sky Sports.

However, this year’s Wimbledon was seen by many as his best chance to win another Grand Slam before the end of his career.

“I think for 99 percent of the players, that would be great [set of] Grand Slam results,” said Djokovic.

“For me it is good but not good enough, because I am blessed and cursed to be used for something that is very high in terms of results and achievements.

“In a way, I also face myself in a way that I say to myself, look, this is amazing that you can still, as the people around me at me, can play at such a high level and push the youth to the limit of Grand Slam titles, which is true. But at the same time, I always expect a lot from myself.”

Djokovic: Let’s see what the future brings

Djokovic had a tough Wimbledon this past weekend with wins over Stefanos Tsitsipas, Arthur Rinderknech, Roman Safiullin and a five-set thriller against Felix Auger-Aliassime to reach the semi-finals.

He admits the “internal battle” of changing goals and expectations will play a role in what he decides to do with his career.

“I’m proud of what I’ve achieved the last three nights. Felix is number, what, three, the fourth player in the world. I’ve proven to others that I can still play at a high level, and I have,” said Djokovic.

“Losing in straight sets against the best player in the world, it’s okay. It is what it is. It’s a reality you have to accept. But the competition was great in terms of the attitude on the court, the fighting spirit, the dedication. I mean, it’s still there.”

He added: “Yes, I still enjoy the fun of competing. Maybe I don’t enjoy all the hard weeks leading up to a big competition, repeatedly putting myself through a lot of pain, especially physically.

“I’m happy that this tournament, the body has held up very well. Well, all the other tournaments in the last two years have been something.

“That’s what’s important. I feel healthy, I can still play like a top five player, I can still compete at the highest level. I love it. I love this life. I mean volleyball has given me everything in my life and given me the opportunity to be who I am.

“At the same time, you know, of course there is always the question of how far you want to go, what you want to play, how you want to play etc.

“I’m going through that process, but I’m trying to take it, in a sense, one day at a time, see how I really feel. I’m not under pressure or nobody is forcing me to play. I’m doing it because I really want to and because I still can. I can still play like a 10th player, a top five player. Let’s see what the future brings.”
