Victor Munoz transfer news: Liverpool hijack Newcastle move for Osasuna winger after triggering release clause | Football news

Liverpool have opened a release clause for Osasuna winger Victor Munoz.

The Reds successfully boycotted Newcastle efforts to sign the Spanish player behind Sky Sports News It has been reported that the Magpies are in talks over a deal.

This 22-year-old player is in the Spanish team in the World Cup. Reports say he will be on trial in the USA and join for £34.6m.

This situation reminds us of last summer, when Liverpool not only beat Newcastle in the race for Hugo Ekitike but also signed Alexander Isak, their star striker.

Munoz joined Barcelona’s La Masia Academy aged 11 before moving to Real Madrid’s youth team in 2023.

Current Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso handed the winner his LaLiga first-team debut in May 2025, replacing Vinicius Junior against Barca.

Munoz signed a five-year contract at Osasuna that summer and made 34 league appearances last season, scoring six goals and providing two assists.

Liverpool are looking for two young players this summer

Liverpool are planning to sign two young players to replace Mohamed Salah Yan Diomande considered another higher purpose. There is plenty of competition for the 19-year-old, who is valued at more than £86m by RB Leipzig and is currently at the World Cup with the Ivory Coast.

Diomande, who can play on either wing, has the flexibility Liverpool are prioritizing this summer as they look to rebuild their front line with players who can adapt, giving Andoni Iraola more options than his predecessor in the event of injury.

Right-back is another pressing area for Liverpool, who lost Conor Bradley to a knee injury in January, as last summer’s signing Jeremie Frimpong failed to perform, and there is uncertainty over the future of Joe Gomez.

Yan Diomande opens up about his football journey so far, including trials at Premier League clubs such as Chelsea and Crystal Palace, and why he has no problem staying abroad.

Despite the departure of Ibrahima Konate, Liverpool are not considering signing a new central midfielder ahead of the £60m arrival of Jeremy Jacquet and the return of teenager Giovanni Leoni, who has been out with an ACL injury since September.

However, the pair’s lack of Premier League experience could see Liverpool revisit their situation later in the window. An option, like Gomez, who can play right back and center back, would solve many of Liverpool’s problems at the back.

Kostas Tsimikas’ return from his loan spell at Roma could ease the rush to bring in another left-back to replace Andy Robertson if he impresses. All players will have a clean slate under Iraola, which could be good news for Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott.

Ryan Gravenberch’s emergence as a number 6 in Arne Slot’s first year has put plans to bring a holding midfielder down the pecking order at Liverpool but the club’s performances this past season have underlined the need for reinforcements in that position.
