Elon Musk said on Tuesday that SpaceX will file a lawsuit against the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), accusing the agency of “overreaching the law.”
“SpaceX will file a lawsuit against the FAA for legal malpractice,” Musk said in a post on X.
The tech billionaire’s comments come after the FAA proposed $633,000 in fines against SpaceX on Tuesday, alleging that Musk’s company “did not follow its licensing requirements” related to two launches last summer.
The agency alleges that SpaceX incurred a $350,000 fine during its June 18, 2023 launch for using an “unauthorized control room” and not “conduct.[ing] required survey for T-2 hour.”

Another $283,000 in fines began on July 28, 2023, when Musk’s company allegedly “operated an unauthorized rocket propellant farm,” the FAA said.

SpaceX has requested revisions to its communications plan for a June 2023 launch and one of its launch site plans for July 2023, according to an FAA press release.
“Safety drives everything we do at the FAA, including the legal responsibility to oversee the safety of companies with air transportation licenses. A company’s failure to comply with safety requirements will have consequences,” FAA Chief Counsel Marc Nichols said in a statement. statement.
SpaceX has a 30-day response window for the fine, according to the FAA.
