The NFL Players Association is investigating the Carolina Panthers.
According to Joe Person of The Athletic, the NFLPA plans to review the circumstances surrounding second-year running back Nic Scourton’s injury. Courton tore his ACL on the first day of Panthers training camp, Thursday, July 23.

On a case-by-case basis, the NFLPA will look to see if the Panthers followed training camp rules set forth in the league and Collective Bargaining Agreement. CBA guidelines state that no live contact is allowed during the first five days of training camp, and that the first day of camp “shall be limited to physical testing, meetings, and classroom instruction; no on-field activities will be permitted except running and conditioning.”

The NFLPA’s investigation will determine whether the Panthers followed protocol and whether Scourton’s injury was non-contact. If they review video of Carolina’s practice and decide otherwise, the team could face a penalty for violating the CBA.
Courton, 21, was a second-round pick by the Panthers in the 2025 NFL Draft. As a rookie last year, he appeared in all 17 games, started eight of them, and recorded five sacks. Starting in 2026, Scourton was set for a breakout year playing alongside Carolina’s free agent signings: Jaelan Phillips and Devin Lloyd. Instead, he is likely to miss the entire 2026 season with a torn ACL.
