The Miami Marlins middle back is so predictable that you can set your watch on it
I want to take you on a journey back to July 9th in Major League Baseball.
The Miami Marlins are ten games over .500 and are the hottest team in baseball.
Their pitching looks strong, they get timely hits with good baserunning, and their version of home cooking borrowed from Depot Park is setting all kinds of team records.
It seems that nothing can slow down this freight train from South Florida.

Since then, however, the Marlins have lost 10 straight games and continue to fall out of the playoff race as the calendar turns to August.
Who on Earth could have seen this coming?
Well, me, for one.
I tried to warn people, both at the beginning of the season when the Fightin’ Fish were one of the best teams to start the year, and right after their historic June where they seemed to put the entire league on edge.
What was once the team’s strength, its bullpen, is now wildly explosive, and that timely hitting and strong offense seem to have dried up at a time when many true players are starting to play their best baseball.

And I, along with many other die-hard Marlins fans, saw this coming a mile away.
It’s nothing new at Little Havanna, as anyone who’s been a fan since the beginning can attest.
We’ve had to endure fire sales, spectacular collapses, rare injuries to MVP candidates, and even the death of a bright, young franchise cornerstone.
Nothing can really surprise a Marlins fan at this point, so when people outside the borders of Dade County started singing the praises of the hometown team, true fans could only roll their eyes and wait for the other shoe to drop.
And it did!
If you want to know the exact moment universal karma escaped Miami, it’s probably when the aforementioned McCullough pulled star Eury Perez in the midst of a best-game bid.

Perez was taken after seven innings and just 92 pitches, angering fans in Miami and beyond.
Sure, the Marlins would end up winning the game and their losing streak didn’t start for another four days, but that’s when the baseball gods decided the Marlins would have to pay for their transgressions.
The good news? The Marlins are only three games back of the Wild Card spot, and with the trade deadline approaching, we still have plenty of time to right the ship and make a move to get back into contention.
But, as any friendly Marlins fan will tell you, it would be a pointless endeavor; the increase of the inevitable.
Focusing on this group is a Sisyphean endeavor.

You can enjoy the hot starts and record-setting June all you want, but the result is always the same.
Just take off the Band-Aid and start getting excited for football season, because I’m predicting another October when the lights go out at Depot Park.
