Cubs Minor League Roundup: Josiah Hartshorn leads South Bend past Wisconsin, 4-2
I’m sure we’ll have an official post on this when the Cubs release the press release, but 2B/OF James Triantos he was promoted to the Cubs for the first time in the major leagues. The one who plays outside Kevin Alcantara demoted to Iowa.
The right hand Jacob Wallace from ACL Cubs rookie ball to Double-A Knoxville. The Cubs signed Wallace as a free agent on July 2.

Left hand Drew Pomeranz cleared waivers and assigned to Triple-A Iowa. We’ll see if Pomeranz reports or opts for free agency soon.
Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs defeated the Gwinnett Stripers (Braves) 4-2 in a game that ended after five innings due to rain.
Jaxon Wiggins He started this game and took a loss. Wiggins allowed three runs on five hits over 2.2 innings. Wiggins struggled to find the plate as he walked three and struck out two.
Right winger Brett Bateman He went 2 for 3 with a double. He scored both of Iowa’s runs.
Knoxville Smokies
The Knoxville Smokies were left out of the playoff spot by the Rocket City Trash Pandas (Angels), 5-4.

The beginner Brody McCullough did not allow a hit over 4.2 innings. Unfortunately, he went out on the fifth again Frankie Scalzo Jr. allow an inherited runner to score on Trash Panda’s first hit of the game, so McCullough is charged with one run. McCullough walked three and struck out three.
Scalzo gave up three more runs in the sixth, but the Smokies came back and tied the game. However, Tyler Santana entered the game in the bottom of the ninth with the score still tied at 4-4. Santana allowed three hits and a walk-off run in one-third of an inning to take the loss. Santana had no walks or strikeouts.
A hunter Ethan Hearn put the Smokies up 1-0 in the fourth inning, his fourth of the season. Hearn went 1 for 4.
A middle player Andy Garriola tied the game 4-4 with a three-run home run in the seventh inning. it was Garriola’s 18th home run of the year. Garriola went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk.

The third principle Jefferson Rojas was 2 for 5 with a double. He scored when Garrioila hit a home run.
Second baseman Alex Madera He went 2 for 4 with a stolen base.

South Bend Cubs
The South Bend Cubs defeated the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Brewers), 4-2.
Ethan Flanagan started and got the win with five strong innings, allowing one run on three hits. One run came on a third inning home run. Flanagan struck out four and walked one.
Ben Johnson gave the Cubs two good innings of relief behind Flanagan, who didn’t allow a run on one hit. He walked one and hit one.
Luis Rujano he started in the ninth and got into trouble. After Rujano stopped running, Ethan Bell he entered the game with the first man out and one. A runner was thrown out trying to steal second base and he grounded out twice in the ninth, which seems like a dumb decision. Bell then got a fly to center to end the game and save.

First baseman Josiah Hartshorn hit a big two-run home run in the seventh inning. It was Hartshorn’s first home run in two weeks. It was also his 16th of the year and 11th with South Bend. Hartshorn went 2 for 3 with a double, a home run and a walk. He scored three goals.
Right winger Jose Escobar was 2 for 4 with an RBI triple.
Shortstop Angel Cepeda it was 2 out of 4.
A middle player Kane Kepley went 0 for 3 with two walks and his 46th stolen base. Kepley scored for Hartshorn.

It’s raining again in Hickory. Double header on Sunday. They also play a doubleheader on Friday.

ACL Cubs
They beat the Rangers, 7-1.
This concludes the Arizona Complex League for the year. The Mesa Cubs finished 20-39. Believe it or not, that’s not even the last place. They finished above the Athletics in their division and had a better record than the White Sox as well.
