Andy Murray and Jack Draper reunite at Mubadala DC Open after Scot says coaching partnership ‘will take a few weeks’ | Tennis News
Andy Murray and Jack Draper appear to be working together again after the 24-year-old was forced to miss Wimbledon earlier this month.
In May, it emerged that the three-time Grand Slam champion had joined Draper’s team, after Draper split with former coach Jamie Delgado.
Murray set certain conditions in their training program, explaining in an interview no The Sun that he will only be working with Draper’s team for “a few weeks” and nothing is confirmed past Wimbledon.
Murray said he was open with Draper about what he “could and couldn’t do” as part of the program, explaining that he wanted to continue picking up his children from school and enjoying his family life.
Draper, who missed Wimbledon with a bone injury in his left arm, will return to action at the Mubadala DC Open this week.
He was spotted training on court at the William HG FitzGerald Tennis Center this week alongside Murray.
Draper appeared to be hitting the ball well with his left arm, while Murray watched from the back of the court as the British No 6 worked on his timing.
The 24-year-old’s ranking came after Draper played just six ATP Tour tournaments this season due to an arm problem.
He has dropped to No. 147 in the ATP Tour rankings and that will mean he will need to qualify for September’s US Open, having missed out on key points at the event.
Draper was forced to withdraw in the second round of last year’s US Open due to an injury to his left arm.
Unable to compete in any Grand Slams since then, Draper skipped the Australian Open in January before missing the French Open in May.
In his relationship with Murray, Draper told Sky Sports: “He has always supported me.
Murray had explained that he did not expect that his program with Draper would end after the field season
“I’ve always had a good relationship with Andy.
“We spent time together towards the end of his career, and he’s been very supportive since he retired, but it seemed like the perfect time to get Andy on my team.
“I’ve always wanted that because he’s one of my biggest inspirations.”
