Caitlin Clark ‘really excited’ for Argentina vs Spain in World Cup final: ‘I want Messi’
Messi’s Argentina will face Spain in the World Cup final
Sports commentator Dan Dakich previews the FIFA World Cup Final between Argentina and Spain, highlighting Lionel Messi’s leadership. Caitlin Clark has officially selected the team for the World Cup finals on Sunday. And the United States’ exit in the Round of 16 apparently didn’t kill his interest in the tournament.

After the Indiana Fever’s 108-88 victory over the New York Liberty on Saturday night, Clark was asked if he would play for Argentina or Spain when the two countries meet in the World Cup on Sunday afternoon.

“I’m enjoying Argentina,” Clark said. “I want Messi, so I will be very happy.”
Argentina are trying to become the third country to win the men’s World Cup in a row, while Lionel Messi is seeking his second title in a row at the age of 39.

And Clark’s interest in the finals goes beyond just jumping on the Messi bandwagon.
Long before he was a basketball star, the Fever guard was an elite soccer player. Clark played between his freshman and sophomore years in high school, scoring 26 goals and earning first-team all-state honors in his first season.

“I loved football growing up, and I probably would have played in college, but it was tough in the state of Iowa,” Clark said last month on the “Post Moves” podcast with Candace Parker and Aliyah Boston.
“Soccer was in the spring, and so was AAU basketball. I’d go to some USA Basketball stuff, and I’d miss half of the high school football season. Then I’d come back and feel like a bad teammate, so I ended up quitting after my sophomore year. But I loved it.”
Looks like you made a good choice.
But Clark said the skills he developed on the football field helped shape the basketball star he became.

“The best thing for me is obviously foot speed, but also learning angles. That’s what football is all about – getting your body in the right place, leading people in passing, putting the ball in a good place where they can run,” Clark said.
“That helped me as a passer, understanding angles and leading people, controlling where I want them to go. And it helped me be in an amazing position for basketball.”

Clark will be parked in front of the television watching the World Cup final on Sunday afternoon. But he will return to his prime on Wednesday night when the Fever host the Connecticut Sun at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
