Wanted Arsenal but now Man City – how good is Monga?
Sky Sports by Sam Blitz
He turned 17 this summer – but has already been part of the transfer story between two of England’s best clubs.
Jeremy Monga looks like i will go Arsenal. He was keen to join after holding talks with the Gunners.
But such is the fast-paced nature of the transfer market Manchester City they swooped in at the 11th hour to sign him for £10m plus add-ons – a price Arsenal were unwilling to pay.
It’s a steep fee for someone so young but Monga’s potential is just as great. Ever since he made his Premier League debut last year at the age of 15 years and 271 days, clubs have been watching him.
He was so young in his Premier League debut that he was not legally allowed to have a Leicester betting sponsor on his shirt.
Monga’s age puts him in good company. He is the third youngest ever Premier League player behind Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman. No wonder the Gunners wanted him so badly.
And even after a season with Leicester’s first team in the Championship that led to relegation, the best teams in the country have seen more than enough of Monga’s talent.
