James Carville warns that America’s two-party system is nearing its end

Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville and his podcast host Al Hunt lamented the rise of radicals in both parties and warned that this could be a sign that the bipartisan consensus is coming to an end on Thursday.

Carville publicly criticized the rise of some democratic socialists who won the primaries in the Democratic Party, and even suggested that the party should be divided to keep them out of control.

One of the biggest changes in recent politics, Carville said, is that struggling young people believe that previous generations have completely failed to help. Carville said that although there are economic problems, it is not nearly as bad as young people think.

Speaking on “Politics War Room,” Carville said he still believes that the old pillars of the Democratic Alliance and a regulated economy with a strong safety net and social insurance is the way the United States should go, but lamented that the younger generations no longer believe in that idea.

“And it’s a very taxing time. I mean, the only thing that would come up would be the nomination of a Democratic candidate for president in 2028. I think it should be. But I think the party might have to split,” he warned.

Although Carville admits that he is an old man, there are still young people who share his view of Democratic Party politics, but still, “People are always talking about the end of the two-party system. We may seem very close to the end of it.”

“There’s really no room for anything you can think of like a traditional John McCain, Mitt Romney Republican, because there’s nowhere for them to go,” he said. “So I don’t know where this is going, but it’s hard for me to see two parties dominating American politics in the future like they did in the past.”

While Carville and his running mates both noted their differences with other progressive Democrats like Pramila Jayapal and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Carville warned that the new wave of democratic socialists is a bridge too far.

“This new plant that we have, it’s completely different. This is not the same. I think people may have voted for us and they haven’t thought about it. I don’t know what they’re doing, but I have to tell you,” he said. “This is a new trend and it’s a very disturbing trend and it’s like people are looking for a quick fix to do whatever they can to stop the pain they’re going through and I’ve got news for you, there are no quick fixes.”
