Andrew Whitworth says he’s been texting Aaron Donald about the Rams’ comeback

The Los Angeles Rams will make it one last time before moving on to the next generation.

The Rams selected Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson with the 13th overall pick in the NFL Draft in April, but shortly thereafter, extended reigning MVP Matthew Stafford for one more year and then surprised the league by acquiring reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett.

The Garrett trade then fueled speculation and rumors that three-time DPOY Aaron Donald was considering a return.

When asked in a recent interview with Fox News Digital if he was a package deal with Donald, former Ram Andrew Whitworth said, “No, I don’t think so.”

“If I was 35, I’d be where I am right now. There’s no doubt about that. I mean, obviously, I’ve proven that because I played until I was 40,” Whitworth added.

But Whitworth said he has been looking to the future Hall of Famer to see where his heart lies.

“I’m always on AD. I’m shooting him a little text every now and then trying to hear. I’d love to see it. It would be so much fun,” said Whitworth. “He’s going to do what’s best for him. I hope he works out, and man, I hope he’s going to be bitten because there’s nothing more fun than watching that guy. He’s one of the most special people and players I’ve ever been around. At the same time, I don’t want him to go out there and get hurt, but if I’d like to see it, that’s for sure.”

It’s hard not to get excited when you think of two of the game’s best stars next to each other, and that’s exactly what Donald would be doing if he partnered with Garrett.

But Garrett alone was enough for Whitworth to be locked up in the Rams this coming season.

“I’ve already caught him. He used my gym where a lot of guys train, so it was good to see him in the cage here and be around him a little bit. I’m happy for him,” said Whitworth. “I think he will realize that this is a very special place to play. A unique and traditional lobby. I consider it a one-of-a-kind place, and I think that, having some conversations with him, he has already taken that and realizes what a special opportunity this is.

“I think you’re going to see an even more refreshed, excited, amped-up version of Myles Garrett when he comes in here and he realizes how important this place is and it’s going to give him the juice to be a part of something bigger than himself when he’s a winner, and he’s in a place that’s built to win, and he’s going to be one of the reasons they’re going to watch it after the fall.”

Another spectacle that Whitworth is excited about is the famous American Century Championship golf tournament, where he once again tees off at Lake Tahoe.

“I think I’m counting down the days every year. I think the second one is over, you get nervous the next year,” Whitworth said.

“It’s fun. You’ve got all these athletes, celebrities, everything else that’s been on TV in front of thousands of people, everything else, but we’re funny every year, our group when we’re all sitting around talking, like the emotions, the nervousness, the kind of little shake you get in front of all those people, that crowd, to go out there and play well, man.

“Obviously it’s not what we all set out to do in life and our lives, but it reminds you of some of those feelings of what it means to you and the power. It just grew and grew and grew with the fans. So it’s a very special week, man. It’s one that I think we think about all year.”
