What does Andy Burnham, who may be the next British prime minister, say about President Trump?

London – The representative of the Labor Party, Andy Burnham, who looks likely to be the next prime minister of Britain, has criticized President Trump, accusing the American leader of bringing “instability” to the world.
The current Prime Minister is Keir Starmer announced on Monday that he would resign after the disastrous local elections in May, and 20 resigned from his government.
With his Labor Party still holding the majority of seats in the UK parliament – which it won at the last general election in 2024 – it will be able to choose Starmer’s successor, too. Burnham is expected to get a job.

If that happens as expected in the coming weeks, Burnham will soon find himself on the phone with Mr. Trump, whose advisers are likely to scour the headlines for years for evidence of Burnham’s views on the politician-turned-businessman.
So what does Burnham say about Mr. Trump?
“Toxic, toxic politics”
In short, he did not particularly recommend.
“The path we’re on, if we’re not careful, is the path toward the politics of the United States of America,” Burnham warned on the campaign trail in June. Although he did not say that this was directed at President Trump directly, he said that the American people are facing “toxic politics where people in communities are no longer working together.”
Last year, in an interview with The London Economic which included questions about the re-election of Mr. Trump and the rise of opposition parties in Europe, he said: “I think now we have to have a real debate about what that means and the instability that exists.” [former prime minister] Liz Truss brought it to Britain, I think Trump is bringing it to the US and the world. “
In a 2024 book he co-authored, Burnham wrote: “Whether we like it or not, Donald Trump and Nigel Farage has done well in connecting with people who feel that politicians are not paying attention to the area they live in.”

He said the “new radical Right” in the UK and US is capitalizing on inequality and a “flawless left-wing establishment” that has failed to address the problems of middle-class voters.
And on Jan. 6, 2021, as riots engulfed the US Capitol, Burnham wrote in X: “Any UK politician who gave Trump the time of day should be ashamed right now.”
CBS News did not immediately receive a response from the White House to a request for comment on Burnham’s past comments.
