“What A Snake”, “Mavs Are Outta Here Cooking”: NBA Fans React As Dust May Reportedly Make Shocking Turn After NCAA Title Victory

The Dallas Mavericks may be making a big decision soon, as sources have suggested the franchise may acquire NCAA head coach Dusty May of the Michigan Wolverines. As draft night approaches, teams are already in the process of getting ready, and the Mavericks are reportedly planning their first move. Meanwhile, the opinions of fans are divided on this issue.
Former Mavericks coach Jason Kidd has signed a multi-year contract with the franchise. If the team hires the national coach who won the championship, it will be under the leadership of the new club president and another governor, Masai Ujiri. The team has taken a new approach since last season’s midseason trade in which the franchise dealt away all major contracts to begin rebuilding around 2025-26 Rookie of the Year Cooper Flagg.

Shams Charania shared an update on X:
“UPDATE: University of Michigan coach Dusty May has agreed to become the new head coach of the Dallas Mavericks, sources tell me, @AdamSchefter @PeteThamel. Big college jump to 2026 NCAA tournament coach profile and swing Mavericks with Masai Ujiri.”
However, the fans were divided in their opinions which was clear from their comments on this post. User wrote:
“MAVS COME OUT HERE COOKED”
One user was happy with this change and wrote:
“Now Mark Cuban is going to be a billionaire. This guy did a great job with Michigan.”
Another fan commented along the same lines:
“Wow Mavs you may have just cooked, May could turn Flag into a star”
Meanwhile, several fans were unhappy with the team’s decision and expressed speculation about the upcoming change. User wrote:
“The times I have heard this guy in interviews say that I am not even looking for jobs this year…
I am committed to Michigan IS CRAZYSuch a snake
Doing this behind the portal is a crazy job”
Another user pointed out that this might be a mistake:
“Dusty May made the biggest mistake a basketball coach ever made.”
The addition of Dusty May to the squad will give them a new direction. The Michigan coach delivered a championship in his second season with the program. He has solidified his role as a developer of elite talent, which is a major need for the Mavs.

Dust May Follow John Beilein’s Ill-Fated Destiny in the NBA
Dusty May may be coming off a championship run, but a major jump always comes with its own challenges. In addition, the team is rebuilding around rookie, Cooper Flagg, which is a major undertaking in itself. The team has a lot of decisions to make this offseason, and a new coach at the helm means the franchise may have to make some bold decisions.
John Beilein also left college for the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2019 but faced a difficult campaign. He took the team to a miserable 14-40 record in 54 games and decided to part ways. The experiment didn’t work for the Cavs.
Still, May is known for his quick turnaround and quick success with teams, and the Mavericks are desperate for a title run.
