Brandon Johnson poked fun at the emergency killings during the deadly weekend

Trump criticizes Illinois governor over Chicago crime
President Donald Trump is criticizing Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker after a violent weekend in Chicago where dozens of people were shot and killed. Trump, offering federal aid, asks why Pritzker is refusing aid. Community Roundtable director Cata Truss strongly urges both the mayor and the governor to accept federal intervention.

The Mayor of Chicago has become a laughingstock after he highlighted the state of emergency of violence during the weekend of the twelfth of June when a number of people were shot in his city and six were killed.
“Since the Transfemicide State of Emergency was declared, our administration has strengthened the City’s capacity to support LGBTQ+ Chicagoans,” Sunday X posted from Mayor Brandon Johnson. “This framework builds on that work by bringing together the voices and experiences of trans Chicagoans to chart a path toward a safer, more connected city.”
“Transfemicide” is defined as “the targeted killing of a transgender woman motivated by transphobic and misogynistic hatred.” Critics were quick to point out that Johnson appeared to be more focused on promoting the twelfth weekend to combat an obscure category of transgender violence than the murders of black people in Chicago.

Johnson’s office reinstated the state of emergency on Sunday after it was set to take effect in 2024.
A report on this topic suggests that violence against transgender women, especially black, indigenous people of color (BIPOC) transgender women, is rampant in Chicago.
But the report doesn’t say how many trans women have been killed in the city, and admittedly includes suicide in the category of “transfemicide” despite the definition of the term. The top photo in the paper shows 21 people and their photos, possibly transgender women who died in Chicago.
Online critics criticized Johnson for focusing his administration’s energy on the transgender issue, and many noted that the timing of the post coincided with a weekend in which 39 people were shot and six killed while the city celebrated June 10.
DEAD HUSBANDS AND 29 SHOT IN CHICAGO WEEKEND VIOLENCE AS LEADERS OF CRIME
“No one knows what the ‘Transfemicide State of Emergency’ is,” said Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, on X. “This is what the Mayor of Chicago is all about.”
“Black Chicagoans die on the streets in droves every month from gang violence, carjacking, and revenge,” one X user said in part. “Those are real families pressing emergency situations in Roseland, Englewood, Austin, and beyond. They’re not niche proprietary reports.”

“‘The Transfemicide Emergency.’ Without parody. And it’s deceptive,” the post from Conservative commentator Matt Walsh said in part.
“Everyone is confused about this but I think it’s good that Mayor Johnson has finally found the kind of killing he doesn’t like. Baby steps,” said X personality Jarvis Best.
“‘Transfemicide State of Emergency,'” former White House Deputy Chief of Staff James Blair responded. “We are running out of sentences.”

“There’s a lot of Murder going on in Chicago,” Trump wrote Social Reality. “Why didn’t Governor Pritzker call me for help. I could make Chicago a safer city in ONE MONTH, ONE YEAR, it would be one of the safest places!!!”
He cited success in reducing violent crime in Washington, DC by bringing in the National Guard and federal law enforcement.
Johnson’s office did not return a request for comment.
