Golf Channel’s Brandel Chamblee tells the hard truth about Tiger Woods’ abusive behavior on the golf course

Golf Channel’s Brandel Chamblee is like every other sports commentator on television, given the fact that he has earned his fair share of fans and haters over the years for his divisive opinions. However, no matter which camp golf fans find themselves in when it comes to Chamblee, they can all agree that he always calls it how he sees it, sharing what he believes to be true, no matter what the subject.

This includes criticizing the greatest and most popular golfer of all time, Tiger Woods.

One of the most notable stories during the 2026 US Open at Shinnecock Hills involved Joaquín Niemann, who was handed a two-stroke penalty in the first round after throwing a club and violating golf’s new conduct policy. The burst came on the par-4 sixth hole, where he ended up recording an 11.

The incident has led the golf world to engage in discussions about player behavior on the golf course. Jon Rahm was also caught on fire in the second round of the tournament, shouting the if-word after missing a short putt.

The conversation came to Friday’s “Live From” show on the Golf Channel, and Chamblee took a different approach by trying to break down when all the cursing and high-pitched expletives became the norm.

“I’ve never seen Jack Nicklaus swing a club. I’ve never heard him yell the F-bomb. I’ve never heard a profanity from him on the golf course,” Chamblee explained.

“I’ve never seen Palmer do it. Never Tom Watson. Pick your player. Greg Norman, every bad loss he’s had, never threw a team, never swore. Say what you will about Phil Mickelson, but I’ve never seen him throw a team or drop an F-bomb,” he continued.

“The same wasn’t true of Tiger Woods. One of the best golfers ever, we all love him, everyone got rich off of him, but he was one of the most rude golfers to ever play the game. Nobody ever criticized him;

Golf fans who have seen Woods’ run in the game certainly know that he didn’t keep things PG-rated inside the fairways.

Chamblee, a former PGA Tour winner himself, admitted to saying some special words and swinging the club on the golf course a time or two. He also realized that he played in a very different era, not this one where the cameras follow the players all the time.

“I haven’t been on TV a lot, and these guys are being videotaped everywhere they go. TV is everywhere. So, I would say, they have a lot more responsibility than you and I would, no doubt about it,” Chamblee continued.

“But with that burden comes unimaginable wealth. It comes with scrutiny. And composure is a skill — it’s a skill. It’s lazy to throw clubs, and it’s lazy to drop F-bombs when you know the whole world is watching.”

The emotions that golf can unleash have been discussed ad nauseam all week at Shinnecock, especially with Wyndham Clark atop the leaderboard heading into Sunday, who had the most notable outburst inside the Oakmont clubhouse during the 2025 US Open.
