The top scorer in the World Cup will be chosen on Friday

  • Folarin BalogunUSA (+140, FanDuel)
  • Ayoub El KaabiMorocco (+170, FanDuel)
  • Vinicius JuniorBrazil (-140, FanDuel)
  • Kenan YildizTurkey (+230, FanDuel)

Folarin Balogun, USA (+140, FanDuel)

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Balogun was a key driver in Team USA’s attack against Paraguay, scoring not once, but twice in a 4-1 victory. USMNT data victory. Balogun was one of the few players with two goals in the first round of the group stage, and the US should lean heavily on him here especially Christian Pulisic to miss this game due to a calf injury. Look for Balogun to stay hot here.

Ayoub El Kaabi, Morocco (+170, FanDuel)

Morocco had a good performance in their first game, drawing 1-1 with Brazil. Morocco were the better team early on and scored the first goal of the game thanks to a stunning finish Ismael Saibari. Brazil would respond after 11 minutes, and neither team would be able to break through after that. Saibari was Morocco’s hero last week, but we will target El Kaabi against Scotland. He is coming off an 18-goal campaign for Olympiacos in the Super Greece League and had three goals in the last Africa League of Nations. El Kaabi surprisingly did not play against Brazil but is expected to start on Friday. Considering Morocco’s attack has been cold against Brazil, maybe El Kaabi will give them a shot in the arm against Scotland.

Vinicius Junior, Brazil (-125, FanDuel)

Despite getting a draw, Brazil emerged as one of the biggest disappointments at the start of the World Cup after a 1-1 draw with Morocco. The Brazilian side looked overmatched early on and trailed after just 20 minutes, but Junior was able to score an equalizer that was crucial for Brazil to secure a point. The game wasn’t very encouraging apart from that, however, and the team will need more pressure after registering eight shots and five goals on goal in that opening game. We saw Junior getting hot, so why not bring him back here? He’s clearly the best guy in the group right now.

Kenan Yildiz, Turkey (+230, FanDuel)

Turkiye had one of the most disappointing performances in their first match against Australia, falling 2-0 in an upset. Turkiye were second in the shortlist behind the US to win Group D, but now they are third in the shortlist behind the USMNT and Australia. Their match against Paraguay on Friday is very important before the clash with Team USA, so expect Turkiye to come out firing. There are a few big names to pick from the Turkiye side, but we’ll point to Yildiz here. The youngster had six of the team’s 28 shots against Australia, so he’s not afraid to let loose – and that was after coming on as a team. He scored three goals for his country in the qualifiers, and Turkiye needed more offensively after last Saturday’s loss, so look for Yildiz to play a big role on Friday.
