After decades of making audiences laugh, comedy legend Jeff Foxworthy said Monday that his new Fox Nation special could serve as a full circle in his stand-up career.
Foxworthy told “Fox & Friends” that he’s not completely done with stand-up, but creating a special takes a lot of effort, especially his unusual take on “The Joke’s On Me,” which is now airing on Fox Nation.

“I’m not saying I’m going to stop doing stand-up. It’s just a lot of work to do a special. And I’d rather be with my grandchildren,” Foxworthy said with a smile.
“The Joke’s On Me” isn’t just an hour of laughs. Foxworthy is determined to give fans a behind-the-scenes look at the iterative, creative process of putting together a special — something audiences have seen in artist documentaries, but not in the realm of high-profile comedy, he said.

“If you commit to something special, a year. It takes a year to go to comedy clubs every time – Wednesday night, Tuesday night, you know, trying new things. Is this funny? Isn’t it funny? And no one has ever shown that.”

The comedian has also written a number of books from his famous “You might be a redneck if…” one liner. When the idea first came to him, he wrote 10, he told Fox News, and today he estimates he has written more than 9,000.

“I didn’t think it was a hook or books. I was trying to make people laugh. I wrote 10 ways to be red. And the next night, people weren’t just laughing, they were pointing at each other.”
Foxworthy finished his first stand-up special in 1990 with a popular joke, but he’s been using different things over the past 20 years of his career, he said.

Since “The Joke’s On Me” may be his last special, he saw fit to dust off an old favorite.
“I thought, ‘Well, this might be the last special I do, because it’s a lot of work.’ And I’m like, ‘If I closed the first one that way, why don’t I tie a bow and close the last one that way?’
“The Joke’s On Me” is now available on Fox Nation.
