More than 25 years after it debuted as one of Universal Orlando’s most prominent themed attractions, The Lost Continent begins to close in phases at Islands of Adventure.

Demolition work has begun inside the dilapidated country. Footage from a local news station’s helicopter showed an excavator positioned next to a pile of debris, according to multiple reports.

“In the coming months, the Lost Continent attractions and experiences will be closed permanently in phases to make way for a new themed area,” a Universal Orlando spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

“This will also include the closure of Mythos Restaurant in 2027,” the statement added.

The Lost Continent opened with Islands of Adventure in 1999, helping to define the park’s identity with fairytale-inspired architecture, towering stone facades and storytelling rooted in ancient mythology.
