Pete Crow-Armstrong giving up a Little League home run to the Brewers perfectly represents a rough week for the Cubs

In mid-April, the Chicago Cubs put together a 10-game winning streak and did the same to start May, going 27-12 on the year. Things were good in Wrigleyville, but now they are bad. One can even say bad.

The Cubbies have lost each of their last four series, but the latest sweep they endured at home to the Milwaukee Brewers, the team that knocked them out of the postseason last year, paints the worst picture imaginable.

Chicago has been outscored 19-5 by Milwaukee throughout the three-game series, including a 5-0 loss on Wednesday in a game in which the Cubs showed life as a paper towel.

Chicago managed just two hits, had one opportunity with a runner in scoring position, and committed three errors, and one of those errors was a standout.

In the top of the second inning, Milwaukee’s David Hamilton hit a home run, but a line drive went up the middle with the bases loaded. All-Star center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong took an aggressive line to baseball, hoping to soften his blow and show off his arm by throwing to home plate.

Instead, he waved, not even close to putting his glove on the baseball, and Hamilton sailed home to catch a Little League game inside the park.

If the Gold Glove winner can’t field a regular ground ball in center field that doesn’t represent the current state of the Cubs, it’s probably the same mistake he made on a regular fly ball 24 hours earlier.

It hasn’t been in the field where the PCA has struggled most in recent weeks, either.

In his last 11 games, Crow-Armstrong has gone 4 for 37 with 12 strikeouts and just three RBIs.

While every player in baseball history has their ups and downs, PCA’s is no different, given his run-in with a female Chicago White Sox fan during a game on the South Side on May 16.

After being pointed at by a fan after the game during his team’s 8-3 loss to the White Sox, he was caught responding to an insult from a fan.

“You suck the f—ing d—, b—-,” Crow-Armstrong was heard saying.

The Cubs are 0-4 since PCA’s tenure with the fan, and have gone 1-for-14 at the plate during that span.

Luck hasn’t been around for Chicago’s team so far this season, with injuries wreaking havoc on the bullpen as seven pitchers currently sit on the injured list.

That doesn’t count the fact that the Cubs’ bats went cold during a five-game losing streak in which they scored more than three runs in one game, which was a 9-8 loss to the White Sox.
