Buckingham Palace said King Charles III was “shocked and saddened” to learn that a British soldier had died after falling at a horse show the royal family attended this week.
The soldier died during a display by the King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery at the Royal Windsor Horse Show on Friday evening.
The unidentified soldier collapsed after leaving the field following the parade, and despite being treated, he was seriously injured and died at the scene, Thames Valley Police said in a release.
The police said that the horse show will continue as planned on Saturday but there will be no other show by the Royal Horse Artillery.

“While Her Majesty and other members of the royal family were present in the arena when the incident occurred, they were not made aware of the severity of the situation until later,” said a Buckingham Palace spokesperson, according to the London Times.
The spokesperson added, “The King is deeply shocked and saddened to hear of the death of a member of the military and will be contacting the family to offer our condolences. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the entire royal family to the victim’s loved ones and fellow soldiers at this time of grief.”
Buckingham Palace did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s after-hours request for comment.
