Former LDF-backed independent MLA PV Anvar launched his new political party, Kerala Democratic Movement, on Sunday. In his policy speech, Anvar suggested the creation of 15th district in Kerala by splitting the existing districts of Malappuram and Kozhikode.
Anvar highlighted the problem of overcrowding in Malappuram, noting that the population of the district has grown from 14 lakhs to 45 lakhs. He pointed out that this makes it difficult for government programs to be used properly. He also pointed out that the population of Malappuram now exceeds that of Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Idukki districts combined. Kozhikode is facing similar challenges, he added.
Anvar called for studies and consultations to support the division of these districts, suggesting that the new district should include the southern part of Kozhikode and the northern part of Malappuram.
In his speech, Anvar praised Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and the DMK, calling it the only party in India with a clear stance on democracy, socialist and national values.
He also accused senior police officers, including ADGP Law and Order MR Ajith Kumar, of having ties with RSS leaders, which led them to distance themselves from the CPI(M)-led LDF.
CPI (M) state secretary MV Govindan responded by accusing Anvar of working as a tool of the opposition.
