President Donald Trump said he left behind instructions to strike Iran if Tehran succeeds in its attempt to kill him.

“I’ve been on their list for a long time. That’s what we’re dealing with,” he told the New York Post on Friday. “… The only thing is, I left instructions – if anything happens, to just bomb them at levels they’ve never seen before.”

Trump said that Tehran has long wanted him to be killed, and said that there are no new plans to kill him amid recent reports that Israel has raised the alarm about an Iranian plot to take him out, the newspaper reported.

Internally, Trump has been the target of assassination plots in the United States. In July 2024, a bullet lodged in his ear when a gunman opened fire at his campaign in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Meanwhile, tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to escalate after Trump lifted a ceasefire after Iran fired on three ships in the Strait of Hormuz this week.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has asked us to continue ‘negotiations,'” Trump wrote Friday on Truth Social. “We agreed to do that, but the United States told them, in no uncertain terms, that the Cease Fire is ENDING! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

Trump noted Iran’s desire to target him during a press conference this week at a NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey.

“They had leaders, they are no more. Then they had other leaders, they are no more,” he said. “Now they have another set of leaders – they might be gone, who knows? And you know what? I might be gone too. Because I’m their No. 1 target – it’s all over the place. Because they’re cowards.”
