Brother of former Congress MLA from Mangaluru City North and former JD(S) MLC missing

BM Mumtaz Ali, 52, a businessman and younger brother of former Mangaluru City North MP BA Mohiuddin Bava, is reported missing.

Police launched a search operation in the Phalguni river in Mangaluru early Sunday (October 6, 2024), suspecting that he might have jumped into the river after his damaged car was found near the Kuloor bridge on the national highway 66.

Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal told reporters that Mr. Ali left his house around 03:00 He drove around the city in his luxury car and crashed into a car. He parked the car near the bridge around 5 am and has not been there since. It is suspected that he threw himself into the river. Teams of the Karnataka State Disaster Response Force and the Indian Coast Guards, along with the police, are searching for Mr. No, he said.

Mthnywya said the police had not yet found the reason for Mr.’s disappearance. “We are aware of some family reasons and it is all part of the investigation,” he said. The incident of the police and the local police have taken a closer look at the abandoned car and collected evidence related to this incident, he said.

Mr. Agrawal said that before Mr. Ali sent a voice message to her family on WhatsApp saying that she would not be coming back.

Mr Ali, who ran an export business, was among Mr Bava’s three brothers. Another older brother of Mr. Ali was Janata Dal (Secular) MLC BM Farooq. Mr. Ali was known for his philanthropic work. He was the office manager of the Muslim Central Committee. He was on the management committee of other mosques including the mosque near Pumpwell Circle.
