Sen. Rep. John Fetterman, D-Pa., who has repeatedly broken with left-leaning Democrats, spoke on Tuesday’s episode of the “Impaulsive” podcast about how his party needs to change its strategy.

Fetterman lamented the current state of politics as a divided chaos between two parties engaged in a “race to the bottom.” However, he has charged that he is working for the American people as a member of the Democratic Party in a state that ended up voting for the re-election of President Donald Trump in 2024.

“Some Democrats are now working on ‘f— Trump’ — I mean that’s in some of their ads, you know, honestly,” he said.

He went on to criticize the idea of tarring one’s political opposition as “fascists,” warning, “And this idea—and if you call someone on his side, like, ‘you’re a fascist,’ that means the people I know and love who voted for him, you know, that should be—they’re fascists. And they’re not. These are good people, and they love them. They’re trying to find a way forward in a divided country.”

“I refuse to do that,” he said of political discrimination and insults. “People have forgotten that we are all Americans and we need each other.”

He went on to recall how he “took s—” by being invited to dinner with Trump in 2025.

“I was excited. I was like, ‘Hey, great. We have an invite. Sure. I can’t wait. This is going to be great.’ You know, I like to have conversations,” Fetterman said.

This bipartisan communication from Trump, he said, has no equal in the Democratic Party.

“There are no Democrats getting in the way right now,” he said, summarizing the Democrats’ messaging as “You want to pay your bills, F— Trump, and burn them.”

The truth, he said, is more complicated, saying “I don’t just represent, you know, Democrats. I represent all 13 million Pennsylvanians.”

Towards the end of the episode, he concluded by calling for a better level of political discourse.

“Democrats are angry with me because the Democratic Party is growing, the base wants something ‘F— Trump’,” he said. “So, my votes — my values are reflected in the votes. But overall, I’m going to be an example for people to say, ‘Well, at least they’re going to do it in a decent way’ and be something sane or sane in the midst of the craziness here.”
