Celtic transfer news: Martin O’Neill confident Camilo Duran deal will only start summer signings | Football news

Martin O’Neill expects Celtic’s transfer business to accelerate with Camilo Duran set to become the club’s first team player in the summer.

Following a medical, the 24-year-old will join the Hoops for £6m following a fruitful 2025-26 campaign with Qarabag in which he scored five Champions League goals.

Veteran midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has agreed a new one-year deal after joining on a short-term deal in January, but fans are growing frustrated with the club’s lack of business ahead of the new season.

“We have a number of players we are looking at,” O’Neill said.

“We have many offers that are given to players at the same time.

“And I’m hoping in the not too distant future, and I mean maybe in the next few weeks, we’re going to have some really decent players at the football club to add to the decent players we have at the football club.”

Defender Cameron Carter-Vickers played the first half in the 1-1 draw with Shelbourne – where both sides scored late penalties – as he made his first appearance since October following a ruptured Achilles.

“At first, I thought I had a cramp in my calf,” the United States player said of the injury in the Europa League win over Sturm Graz.

“Soon after that, when the physios saw it, they thought it was an Achilles tear, which it was. Obviously at that point, you know it’s going to be a long-term injury.

“For me, it was about understanding that that’s the situation you’re in and you’re just working to get back to the best possible shape and the best possible way.”

“It was about not getting too far ahead of yourself and chasing small gains and being happy with small gains. I played the cast for three weeks and then played in eight boots.

“You can’t really move your foot in any kind of way in the beginning so at the beginning of the rehab, almost when I got a little movement back in my foot, it was about taking that as a victory and being positive about it and then after that you chase the next thing and the next thing.”

Chris Sutton admits ‘a lot of change is needed’ at Celtic and gives an estimate of how much that could cost the club in the summer transfer window.

Chris Sutton believes Celtic may need to spend more than £50m on their squad this summer if they are to retain their Premiership title and qualify for the Champions League.

“Martin did wonders last season. I didn’t see Celtic win the title in the position he was placed in for a few times,” he said. Sky Sports News.

“I mean that the game that is coming to the end of the season was unusual, but I still think that you cannot escape the fact that there must be a big change in Celtic in terms of recruitment.

Could Daizen Maeda leave Celtic this summer?

“They’ve secured a very important Champions League qualifier and, while it was exciting for Celtic fans to finally get over the line last season, you can’t get away from the fact that Celtic have struggled all season. Martin will be looking, I’m sure, to bring in players.

“It will be interesting to see who comes out of Celtic. It looks like Reo Hatate will go, maybe Daizen Maeda, Arne Engels but they are big players in the team. Who will Celtic close? Celtic may spend up to or more than £50m because the squad needs to be rebuilt.”
