After McMorrow’s announcement, Stevens praised his fellow Democrat, calling him an “important voice” for policies that benefit Michigan families.

Stevens then argued that he is a strong Democratic candidate to win the primaries and defeat Rogers in November.

“As we enter the final month of the primary election, I am excited to continue making my case to Michiganders about why I am the strong Democrat to defeat Mike Rogers this November, lower costs, protect manufacturing jobs, and resist Trump’s abuse of power.”

In his statement, El-Sayed praised McMorrow for having the “courage” to challenge what he described as a corrupt political system, accusing Democratic Party insiders of using millions to gain influence. Although he did not name specific groups, the comments appeared to refer to corporate PACs and party leaders such as Chuck Schumer, who endorsed Stevens.

He then invited McMorrow’s followers to join his ongoing movement to fight big money in politics and defeat the political establishment.

“Throughout this campaign, Senator McMorrow has shown what it looks like to fight politics that is derailing the system against many of us. Although we have policy disagreements, I have never questioned whether Senator McMorrow will fight for a better America for my daughters and his,” he said.

“People like him in the party he dared to challenge were harassing anyone who opposed their nominee. After spending $30 million to drown me and Senator McMorrow, they are now spending more money to attack me. That’s all we’re up against.”

“I welcome his supporters to our campaign to resist money in politics, put money back in pockets, and pass Medicare for All. We cannot allow the establishment to decide for us the person they chose.”
