‘How can such a party make India drug free?’ Shah criticizes Cong, party responds

Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, on Friday, launched an attack on the Congress over the recent drug seizure worth Rs 5,600 crore in Delhi while claiming that one Pramukh Karyakarta (senior worker) of the Congress is an accused in the case.

The Union Minister was addressing a public meeting at Mansa of Gandhinagar while launching and laying the foundation stone of development works worth over Rs 300 crore.

He said that between 2004 and 2014, the Congress-led government seized 1.52 lakh kg of drugs worth Rs 768 crore. While, between 2014 and 2024, the BJP-led government seized 5.42 lakh kg of drugs worth Rs 27,600 crore.

Shah said he wonders what is the cause of such a big difference in the takeover of the two governments. He then said, “The difference is that when the drugs were taken, it was decided to get to the heart of the issue of who is doing this illegal trade…the main suspect arrested, Tushar Goel, was found to be the president of the RTI cell. Delhi Congress. Now, tell me, can a group of wage earners who are involved in the illegal drug trade, make India free from drugs?”

Slamming the Congress, Shah then said, “Before the arrival of (PM) Narendra Modi, the Congress plunged Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi into the illegal drug trade. By seizing double the amount of drugs more than 36, the BJP Narendra Modi government has hit it hard.” He added that only the BJP can fulfill the promise of a ‘Drug Free India’ given by PM Modi.

Festive offer

During the event, Shah also laid the foundation stone of a 425-bed hospital in Mansa, his birthplace. During his speech, Shah also said that next December, the foundation stone laying ceremony of Mansa medical college will be held.

Responding to Shah’s allegations, Gujarat Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi said, “Congress has nothing to do with that accused (Tushar Goel). And if he is involved in any such situation, the system will punish him. The party does not want to rescue anyone (who has done wrong).”

Targeting Shah further, Doshi said, “But, why is the Union home minister not talking about the discovery of a huge consignment of drugs at the Adani port in Gujarat? Why is he not talking about the fake drug factories seized in Gujarat? Liquor containers are being seized in a state known for milk production and white revolution. Under the rule For them, Gujarat has become a gateway to drugs. They are politicizing this issue to hide their failure.”

Slamming Shah, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera, in a column on X, said: “How can the country’s top ministers lower themselves to become third party liars?” Sharing dozens of photos and posts, Khera also wrote: “Would you explain this drug dealer’s connection with BJP leaders?”
