Sandro Tonali: Tottenham agree club-record £100m deal to sign Newcastle midfielder | Football news

Tottenham have agreed a club record £100m deal to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle.
The midfielder is expected to fly to London from Milan on Thursday to undergo a medical examination and complete his procedures.
Spurs are set to pay £92.5m plus £7.5m in add-ons for the 26-year-old.
Tonali is expected to earn more than £275,000-a-week at Spurs and has been determined to work under Tottenham boss and fellow Italian Roberto De Zerbi despite interest from elsewhere, including Manchester City.
On day two, Tottenham have committed to breaking their transfer record after agreeing an £85m deal with West Ham for the midfielder. Mateus Fernandes.
The arrival of Fernandes and Tonali will use Spurs’ money through the £200m barrier.
Spurs spent £52m on the defender Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton, when they had imported Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi again Martin Dubravka in free transfer.
It marks a major change in the club’s transfer strategy following consecutive Premier League finishes in 17th place after the club narrowly escaped relegation on the final day of last season.
The potential deals for Fernandes and Tonali come after Spurs agreed on Wednesday to sell the defender Luka Vuskovic for £50m to Brighton.

And a possible sale is already being felt, with Newcastle agreeing to a fee with Hoffenheim for the winner They will meet Toure.

How can Spurs afford this summer?
Analysis by Sky Sports News reporter Michael Bridge:
The biggest change has been the management’s willingness to spend money on trades and salaries to compete with the top teams. After missing a few drops, the message disappeared again.
Spurs have qualified for European football in 17 out of 20 years. It has had the lowest salary-to-turnover ratio in the league over the past few years.
They have invested well in their neighborhood in terms of land, building the best sports field. That platform is undoubtedly one of the best in the world, and it makes unbelievable money.
The previous criticism of Spurs fans was that they don’t see the money being spent on the pitch.
The promise of the Lewis family, Vinai Venkatesham and Peter Charrington is that they will do this going forward and use the income from things like the stadium to develop the first team. That will have a big impact on their spending.
There will also be sales this summer, which will be necessary in terms of creating space in the squad for all these signings and the truth is there will be a few games to play after leaving Europe.
If you look at the players who could leave – Lucas Bergvall, Luka Vuskovic, Cristian Romero, Pape Matar Sarr, Richarlison – they could fetch a huge sum for Spurs.
The Lewis family injected £100m into the club this summer – and that takes them up to £200m from 2025 – but that was for the day-to-day running of the club rather than transfer money.
