Colorado Democratic Socialist member Melat Kiros recently argued that the terrorist attacks of 9/11 and 10/7 were “inevitable” after US and Israeli military actions in the Middle East.

In an interview with Colorado’s Next 9News on June 22, Kiros was asked about comments he made during an appearance on Twitch streamer Hasan Piker’s show where he called Hamas’ terrorist attacks against Israel “the inevitable result of apartheid, of occupation, of decades of occupation.”

Kiros backed away from the idea that Israel will “come” but stressed that, in the context of the video, it is important to understand the “circumstances” that led to the terrorist attack.

“It’s about understanding the conditions in which violence and war happen, right?” Kiros said. “The state of Israel has been accused of apartheid and occupation for decades and has been resistant to any kind of change despite all the frustration around the world that people have had over the conditions the Palestinians have been living in.”

9News reporter Kyle Clark followed up by asking if he believed the 9/11 terrorist attacks were also an “inevitable consequence” based on his foreign policy.

DEMOCRATIC PARTNERS HOLD UP THE TIME WITH EXTREMELY VIOLENT, ANTI-AMERICAN VIEWS THAT ARE BADLY tainting THE PARTY

“It is inevitable in the sense that we disturbed much of the Middle East, which led people to believe that another act of violence was the only answer. And again, as I said before, our responsibility is to eliminate those conditions that lead to violence in the first place,” said Kiros.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the Kiros campaign for comment.

Prior to his campaign, Kiros was fired from his position at the law firm Sidley Austin in 2023 after publishing an open letter criticizing law firms, including his own, that called for anti-Semitic measures on college campuses.

“By reducing the chances of employment of future lawyers by criticizing the actions of the Israeli government and its legality, you have participated in Israel’s anti-Jewish spirit against the legitimate concerns of the right to self-determination and livelihood of the Palestinian people. By joining the ‘anti-Segitimize’s calls for the abolition of the state of Israel, it considers its colonial role in Palestine, including the one-state solutions that Palestinians and Israelis alike want – one state, under historic Palestine, where all citizens are equal under the law, regardless of religion or race,” Kiros wrote.
