Alec Baldwin’s Rust Gets World Premiere, Will Honor Halyna Hutchins

Alec Baldwinthe movie Rust will finally see the light of day three years after the cinematographer Halyna Hutchins he was killed in the set.

The Western drama will have its world premiere at the Camerimage International Film Festival, which is expected to take place from November 16 to November 23 in Toruń, Poland, organizers announced on Thursday, October 3.

The first show will honor Hutchins, who was fatally injured during a skirmish in New Mexico in October 2021. Hutchins was hit live by bullets fired from a gun Baldwin was carrying during a training exercise. Director Joel Souza he was also injured.

Festival organizers said Hutchins, who was 42 years old, will be remembered during a discussion after the screening of a film featuring Souza, the cinematographer. Bianca Cline again Stephen LighthillHutchins’ mentor at the American Film Institute.

Camerimage said Souza and the company will “discuss the events surrounding the film, providing further insight into the production after Halyna’s death.” The panel will also discuss “the unique visual style that Halyna developed on set and explain how Bianca Cline, who took over her role, was able to mimic Halyna’s style so dramatically.”

Festival director Marek Zydowicz in a statement, “We knew that our event is important to him and that he feels at home among photographers from all over the world, who have gathered at Camerimage for more than 30 years. During the festival, we honored Halyna’s memory with a moment of silence and the film crew discussed safety on set. Now, again, together with photographers and film lovers, we will have this special opportunity to remember him.”

In July, the first involuntary manslaughter charge against Baldwin, 66, was dismissed by a First District Judge. Mary Marlowe Sommer at the Santa Fe, New Mexico courthouse. The judge agreed with Baldwin’s lawyers that prosecutors withhold evidence that may be related to the murder. Baldwin was in tears when the judge handed down his decision on July 12.

“There’s no way the court is going to fix this,” Marlowe Sommer told the court, per NBC News. “The penalty of dismissal is the only valid remedy.”

The dismissal was prejudicial, meaning the manslaughter charge against Baldwin will not be refiled.

Film producer, Hannah Guttierez-Reedhe is currently serving an 18-month prison sentence after being found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in March. On Monday, September 30, Gutierrez-Reed was denied a new trial.
