US military resources respond after a devastating earthquake shakes Venezuela

The US military has been working to help Venezuela after the South American country was rocked by a devastating earthquake last week.

“Under the direction of the US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), US military forces continue to arrive in Venezuela today to support the ongoing US earthquake relief efforts requested by the Venezuelan government and led by the US State Department,” SOUTHCOM said in a statement on Sunday about the relief efforts.

“SOUTHCOM’s operations are completely self-sustaining, with ground staff not requiring local resources as they work tirelessly to deliver vital assistance to the people of Venezuela,” SOUTHCOM noted.

The President of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Jorge Rodríguez, said on Sunday that the death toll from the earthquake has reached 1,450.

“Soldiers on the ground, saving lives,” SOUTHCOM said in a Sunday post on X.

“US Marines in Venezuela are supporting US and international first responders during search and rescue efforts in areas hit hard by the earthquake,” the post, which includes several photos, continued.

“@DeptofWar continues to work closely with @StateDept to support earthquake relief efforts and deliver aid to Venezuelan communities in greatest need. Under the direction of #SOUTHCOM, US military forces are supporting US disaster relief to the people of Venezuela following the June 24, 2026 earthquake,” the post noted.
