The 2026 World Cup is entering the final days of the group stage, and by the end of the weekend the knockout bracket will be complete, with the remaining 32 teams continuing their pursuit of soccer’s biggest prize. The United States closed out Group D with a 3-2 loss to Türkiye, but the result ended up having little impact. Mauricio Pochettino’s side have already secured their place in the knockout round. After Thursday’s games we finally have a clear idea of who will be the team that will face Mauricio Pochettino’s United States in the round of 32. Bosnia-Herzegovina, one of the surprises of the tournament, will meet the USMNT next week, on July 1 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Bosnia’s win against Qatar on Wednesday put them on four points with 1 goal difference, ensuring they will not finish among the four relegated teams in third place. With Sweden’s progress reconfirmed after Thursday’s game, the final concession was sealed, establishing the 32nd meeting between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the United States.
Pochettino made many rounds in the last game of the group stage as the game was not consistent, and there were positive aspects despite the defeat, such as the return of Christian Pulisic after the injury that prevented him from playing against Australia.
