Wyndham Clark leads the US Open by four shots on the podium, but Matt Fitzpatrick and Xander Schauffele are among the major champions who have moved past the chasing pack.

Clark posted a 36-hole score at the US Open at Shinnecock Hills when he followed up a weather-delayed 64 with a one-under 69 on Friday, leaving him poised to challenge for a second major win in four years.

The 2023 champion walks out with Fitzpatrick in the final group, teeing off at 8.45pm UK time, with Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler both withdrawn and looking to get off to an early start in their third round.

McIlroy endured a rollercoaster day two as he reeled off three straight bogeys, two birdies and a double bogey in a back nine of over 71, as Scheffler – chasing a career Grand Slam – posted a second round 68.

Rory McIlroy posted a one-over par 71 in a rollercoaster round at Shinnecock Hills in the second round of the US Open.

Eleven shots separated the 72 players – including five rookies – who qualified for the weekend, with Bryson DeChambeau (+5) and Jon Rahm (+6) among those who finished outside the four-over par.
