‘Everybody in BJP is guilty’: Priyank Kharge wants Nirmala Sitharaman to resign over election bonds Bangalore News

After an FIR was registered in Karnataka against Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, BJP president JP Nadda and others over alleged corruption in electoral bonds, Congress on Sunday demanded that they resign.

This came in opposition to the BJP’s demand for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s resignation over the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam.

An FIR against the BJP leaders was registered on Saturday at the Tilaknagar police station in Bengaluru on the directions of a special court for elected representatives after social activist Adarsh Iyer filed a petition against him for looting and criminal conspiracy in the election bond scheme. Introduced by the BJP-led Union government to raise political funds, the electoral bond scheme was struck down as unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Karnataka Information Technology Minister Priyank Kharge said the BJP should first expel Sitharaman, Nadda and others named in the FIR before demanding the resignation of Siddaramaiah and other Congress leaders.

He said that the Union government is looking at leaders like Siddaramaiah and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge because it has been left humiliated by organizations established in the state demanding a fair share of tax collected and funds for various irrigation schemes.

Festive offer

“There is a standard operating procedure for the BJP of India, a template they have followed across the country. First they send agencies like CBI, income tax and ED to intimidate people based on irrational reasons. If they do not bow down, the Governor’s office will be turned into the BJP’s head office,” said Kharge, referring to the punishment given by the governor to investigate the chief minister in the MUDA case.

Reading the decision that allowed the FIR to be lodged against the Union minister and others, he said the court had observed that there was “criminality” in the electoral bond scheme. “Everyone in the BJP is part of this case. Let them all be deleted,” he added.
