Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski makes MLB history with Maddux’s first 15-strikeout game

The Jacob Misiorowski Show continued Friday night with one of the greatest plays in baseball history. The Milwaukee Brewers ace struck out 15 Philadelphia Phillies and faced at least 27 batters in one shutout at American Family Field (MIL 6, PHI 0). The Phillies’ only baserunner, Kyle Schwarber, was quickly ruled out of a double play following his single.
Here are Misiorowski’s 15 hits:
Misiorowski’s final pitch, number 95 of the night, was a 103.1 mph fastball off Justin Crawford in strikeout No. 15. Eight of his nine pitches in the ninth inning were over 100 mph. The one who wasn’t there? It was a 92.2 mph changeup.
“He’s amazing. He’s an amazing guy. He really is,” Brewers manager Pat Murphy said after the game. “Forrest Gump-like. Amazingly real. Naive to a lot of things. It’s beautiful. He just goes out and eats it.”
Alas, we missed the Misiorowski vs. Christopher Sánchez to assemble in two days. Sánchez is slated to start Sunday’s series finale. These two are the early favorites for the NL Cy Young and continue to meet. Sánchez had a record 50 ⅔ -inning scoreless streak recently.
The win improved the NL Central leading Brewers to 42-25 on the season. Here are four things to know about Misiorowski’s one-hit, 15-strikeout masterpiece.
The first Maddux hit 15 times
Affectionately named after Hall of Famer Greg Maddux, “Maddux” is a complete game in less than 100 places. Misiorowski threw just 95 pitches Friday, and his 15 strikeouts were the most Maddux has ever recorded. Pitch-by-pitch data goes back to 1988. Here are more hits on Maddux since then:
- Jacob Misiorowski, Brewers: 15 (June 12, 2026)
- Clayton Kershaw, Dodgers: 13 (July 9, 2017)
- Tarik Skubal, Tigers: 13 (May 25, 2025)
- Carlos Carrasco, Cleveland: 12 (Sept. 17, 2014)
- Cliff Lee, Phillies: 12 (April 14, 2011)
Friday was an unparalleled combination of dominance and efficiency.
A new speed record
Misiorowski hit 100 mph 58 times on Friday — 58 times! — and ran his fastball up to 104.5 mph. He threw the four-fastest pitches by a first baseman in a stretch (since 2008), including the postseason. This season Misiorowski has thrown the 26 fastest pitches by a star since pitch tracking began. The fastest pitch by a star other than Misiorowski is 103.2 mph offered by Jordan Hicks back in 2022. The Miz is rewriting the speed record books.
The best game Brewer ever made
Misiorowski finished Friday’s start with a 100 Game Score, which is Bill James’ metric that makes a start by adding and subtracting points based on certain results (hitting records, hits allowed, strikeouts, etc.). First 100 Game Score since Justin Verlander’s 14 no-hitters in 2019, and 155th Game Score of at least 100 in baseball history. Before Misiorowski, the best start in Brewers history was Corbin Burnes’ 95 Game Score in 2021. Burnes struck out 14 in eight hitless innings in what was a no-hitter tied with Josh Hader. Ben Sheets had a Game Score of 94 in his record 18-hit game in 2004.
The latter’s dominance continues
Here is the number of earned runs Misiorowski has allowed in his last eight starts: 0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0. He is the fourth player ever to allow more than one earned run in his first eight innings, joining Walter Johnson, Guy Bush, and Fernando Valenzuela. In those eight starts, Misiorowski has a 0.17 ERA with 80 strikeouts in 54 ⅓ innings. This is the longest eight-game stretch in baseball history. The blistering speed, the hitting, the lack of base hits allowed — Misiorowski plays a different game than anyone else right now.
One year of The Miz
Friday marked Misiorowski’s one-year major league career. In his first year as a major leaguer, Misiorowski went 13-5 with a 2.65 ERA in 153 innings spanning 28 starts and one relief appearance. He struck out 218 batters in those 153 innings. Only Sánchez (242), Dylan Cease (222), and Jesús Luzardo (221) have more strikeouts in the past calendar year, and all have thrown more innings. Only Sánchez (8.9) and Paul Skenes (6.1) have topped Misiorowski’s 5.3 MPI since his debut. The kid stepped up and has been a quick ace for the Brewers.
