New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani encouraged her fellow Democrats to embrace rather than reject the “End ICE” message she had during an interview on Saturday.
Mamdani expressed his opinion on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) when asked on MS NOW’s “The Weekend” about his thoughts on the ongoing protests outside the ICE facility known as Delaney Hall in Newark, New Jersey.
He noted that the conditions inside Delaney Hall helped fuel his desire to end the facility.

“That’s why I put forward the opinion along with many others that ICE should be abolished, that there is no way to fix this kind of brutality that we see prevalent in the way people arrive throughout the country,” said Mamdani.
He continued, “When it comes to our city, we are proud of our city’s policies. We are proud of the policies we have put in place and the executive orders we have put in place to ensure that all agencies comply with those policies.”
“What do you say to the people who speak the language, and the Democrats in DC say that the language ‘Abolish ICE’ is not useful for the political life of the Democratic Party?” asks MS NOW host Eugene Daniels.

“I think we have listened to them, look where we are,” said Mamdani. “I think it is time to create a new vision for this group, one that does not change its beliefs and does not conform to its principles.”
Daniels followed up by asking how Democrats like Mamdani can reach people outside of their own party. Mamdani replied that he would do that by “delivering.”
“There is a lot of talk about the debate and what we have the opportunity to do here in New York City is to bring that idea. You know, two people can argue all they want, but if you show someone the ability to provide free care for 200 two-year-old children this year, 12,000 two-year-old children next year, every two years old and we believe why we are fighting for it to end four years. deeply in it,” said Mamdani.

Mamdani has been a vocal critic of the use of ICE in his city, slamming the Trump administration’s nationwide immigration efforts.
“We make it clear that no one is above the law in this city, everyone must follow the law,” said Mamdani in March. “I have been very clear to the president, in our private conversations and in our public conversations, about the fact that I believe ICE is a corrupt organization.”

In February, Mamdani issued an executive order barring domestic law enforcement from working with ICE officials on illegal immigration enforcement.
