Trump administration slams Colorado school district for allegedly putting 61 men on girls’ sports teams

FIRST ON FOX: The US Department of Education (ED) sent a warning letter to Jefferson County Public Schools in Colorado on Wednesday after the department ruled in March that the school district had placed 61 male students on girls’ sports teams.
Wednesday’s letter warns the district that it has 10 days to reach a resolution with the ED, or it will receive a follow-up letter of imminent enforcement action, and risk termination of district education funding.

“The District has not only trampled on women’s gender-based protections by allowing men to compete in their sports, enter their bathrooms, and sleep in their dormitories, but now refuses to fix the problem after being given the opportunity. It does not care about the law and the safety, privacy, and dignity of women and girls. Itssble Secretary for Civil Rights Kirich said the Secretary of Civil Rights in a statement provided to Fox News Digital.
“The district must reinstate Title IX protections or other enforcement action. As we continue to honor June as Month IX, the Trump Administration will not allow students to continue to suffer at the hands of a radical ideological agenda that undermines the basic protections they deserve under the law.”

ED’s Office of Civil Rights (OCR) concluded that the district violated Title IX in March after a months-long investigation.
The investigation began in June 2025, when OCR launched an investigation into allegations that Jefferson County Public Schools had removed protections requiring single-sex accommodations on district-sponsored field trips.
Federal investigators said their review found extensive violations, concluding that the district also allowed male students to access women-only facilities and compete on girls’ teams.
Title IX, enacted in 1972, prohibits discrimination based on sex in educational programs or jobs that receive federal funding.
