NEWNow you can listen to Fox News articles!
President Donald Trump called out Pope Leo XIV for meeting with “useless” Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson over the weekend.
“Someone has to explain to the Pope that the Mayor of Chicago has nothing, and that Iran cannot have a Nuclear Weapon!” Trump wrote on Truth Social Saturday.
Trump’s post comes after photos emerged of Johnson meeting the pope, who was born and raised in Chicago, last week at the Vatican.

“It was an honor to share time with a wonderful person, His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, yesterday,” Johnson wrote on X Friday.
Commenting on Fox News Digital, the mayor’s office said, “The people of Chicago have had more than enough of Trump’s war of insults on Iran. Someone needs to explain to the president that he is making it harder for working families to make ends meet.”
Fox News Digital has also reached out to the Vatican for comment.
Johnson led a delegation from Chicago that included George Floyd’s family attorney Antonio Romanucci on Thursday’s trip to the Vatican. During their meeting, Johnson unveiled a bunch of Chicago apparel, including a Chicago Cubs hat.
Before his visit, Johnson told the Chicago Sun-Times that he plans to ask Pope Leo to use his pulpit “to support reparations for the local descendants of African-American slaves.”

“That’s an important conversation… Absolutely… Yes. I want to be clear about that,” Johnson said.
Trump’s comments also come after months of tension between the president and the pope over Pope Leo’s criticism of tough immigration policies and foreign policy.
“I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s OK for Iran to have a Nuclear Weapon. I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s wrong for the United States to attack Venezuela, a country that was sending a lot of drugs to the United States and, worse, emptying their prisons, including murderers, drug dealers and murderers,” wrote Trump, in our fact sheet last month.
He added, “Leo should get his act together as Pope, use Common Sense, stop feeding the Radical Left, and focus on being a Great Pope, not a Politician. It hurts him a lot and, more importantly, it hurts the Catholic Church.”

Pope Leo previously responded that he is “not afraid of the Trump administration” and that his calls for peace should not be taken as a political attack.
“The things I say are not intended to attack anyone,” said the pope. “I don’t think that the message of the Gospel is intended to be abused in the way that other people do. I will continue to speak loudly against war, looking to promote peace, promote dialogue and multilateral relations between states to look for just solutions to problems.”
