Declaration of the General Manager
Edmonton Oilers power forward Evander Kane will be sidelined for the start of the regular season due to scheduled surgery, as announced by Stan Bowman, the team’s general manager, on Wednesday. Bowman declined to provide specifics about the surgical procedure, saying, “He will be out of work for a significant amount of time. The exact nature of the operation is something I would not want to speculate on. Our team doctors will provide accurate tests, but it is clear that they will not be there for long.”
Kane’s Previous Injuries and Performance
Kane, 33, had a stellar 2023-24 regular season, tallying 44 points on 24 goals and 20 assists in 77 games. He also contributed eight points, including four goals and four assists, in 20 playoff games. However, his participation was cut short in the last five games of the Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers due to a sports hernia injury.
Surgical Decision
Bowman explained the surgery decision, saying, “Our goal was to identify the best course of action given his injuries. When players get injured, there are usually many ways to deal with it. After diagnosis, options can range from rehabilitation to surgery, or even trying rehabilitation first before choosing surgery.”
Bowman added, “In reality, no one is willing to undergo surgery because of the complications that may arise. Evander is probably in a better position to comment on that.”
A summary of Evander Kane’s career
Throughout his professional career, Kane accumulated 617 points, including 326 goals and 291 assists, in 930 games with several teams such as the Atlanta/Winnipeg franchise, the Buffalo Sabres, the San Jose Sharks, and the Oilers.
