Newcastle 3 – 1 West Ham

West Ham’s Premier League relegation fears deepen after a 3-1 defeat at Newcastle means Tottenham need just one point from their last two games to send the Hammers into the Championship.
West Ham will now be hoping Chelsea can do them a favor when they host Spurs at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday. live on Sky Sports, where a win for the home team would at least take the relegation battle to the final day.
West Ham trail Spurs by two points and, with a 13-goal difference in Spurs’ favour, their 14-year stay in the top flight is at serious risk. If Spurs lose to Chelsea, West Ham will need to beat Leeds at the London Stadium and hope that Everton will win at Spurs next Sunday.
They had hoped to put the pressure on Spurs with a win at St James’ Park but instead two Newcastle goals in four first-half minutes spelled West Ham’s nightmare.
The first was their execution, with Mads Hermansen’s poor pass allowing Harvey Barnes to cross for an unmarked Nick Woltemade.
The second was brilliant for the hosts, with Will Osula finishing the move past Jacob Ramsey – although, again, West Ham’s defense left much to be desired.
Nuno Espirito Santo had to do it and he did it. The gameplan was out the window, a back-three set was ruled out and Taty Castellanos was sent off after just 26 minutes.
The improvement was immediate, with Nick Pope forcing a sharp stop before Callum Wilson could capitalize on the opportunity to play at the back against his former club. But it was Newcastle who scored the next goal – again a West Ham error.
In their throw-in, the visitors managed to lose the ball and Joe Willock and Osula gave each other passes before the other scored 3-0.
It looked like it was but Castellanos came up with a stunning response when Sven Botman misjudged a long pass from Hermansen, who headed Pope from 25 yards out.
It was an amazing goal and he inspired his teammates. Captain Jarrod Bowen should have done better with a shot from the edge of the box and Castellanos deflected the ball against the crossbar as hopes of a dramatic save began to grow.
But Newcastle regained their composure and secured a win that gives them hope of finishing above Sunderland and leaves West Ham in need of a major overhaul in the final week of the season to stay in the division.
