LPGA Tour: England’s Lottie Woad takes lead at Kroger Queen City Championship as Charley Hull falls far behind | Golf News

England’s Lottie Woad will take a three-shot lead into the final round of the LPGA Tour’s Kroger Queen City Championship in Ohio.

Woad, who is expected to make his European Team debut at September’s Solheim Cup, topped the leaderboard after a second-round 64 and a five-under 65 in a weather-interrupted third round at Maketewah Country Club.

The World No 10 sits on 11 under and has a commanding lead over American Amanda Doherty, with Haeran Ryu four strokes back in third ahead of three-time major champion Lydia Ko.

Jeeno Thitikul is part of a five-under logjam that also features Rose Zhang, while world No. 1 Nelly Korda and overnight leader Jin Young Ko dropped to 19 and nine strokes behind rounds of 72 and 75 respectively.

Defending champion Charley Hull was two out of the lead after the opening day but fell to three in the tournament after registering just one birdie – and three consecutive bogeys – in a 3-over 73.

How Woad moved forward in Ohio

Woad birdied the par-four third and posted back-to-back gains from the seventh, then canceled out a bogey on the par-three ninth by starting his back nine with back-to-back birdies.

He took advantage of the par-five 14th and added his seventh birdie of the day on the 16th, taking him to 12 under, Woad’s lead over Doherty was three strokes after an open bogey.

“I’ve just tried to take last week as a little weird,” said Woad, who missed the cut at last week’s Mizuho Americas Open. “I was playing hard before that, consistently, but that course was pretty good in some places, so I just tried to ignore it.

“I didn’t putt well last week and it turned out my putter grip wasn’t right, so I got a new putter grip. I was putting really bad so obviously I was trying to make excuses that weren’t me – it was the grip.

I just hit a lot of fairways and greens in the last two days. The first day I didn’t hit many roads. I think if you do that [fairway]you have a lot of opportunities here.”

Forsterling leads by two at the Amundi German Masters

On the Ladies European Tour, Alexandra Forsterling’s brilliant birdie putt gave her a two-shot lead in the final round of the Amundi German Masters.

The German posted four consecutive birdies from the 12th on his way to a one-under 69, moving him to 10 under despite having two par-fives in the closing three holes.

A level-par 73 dropped middle leader Sarah Kouskova to a tie with Chiara Noja, with Germany’s Leonie Harm tied for fourth and Canada’s Anna Huang.

Esme Henseleit is five down after double bogeying her 4-over 77, while England’s Esme Hamilton heads into the final day tied for eighth after a one-over 74 dropped her to four under.
