The two-month journey to the Stanley Cup has begun, with the NHL’s top teams trying to work their way through the brackets for the sport’s best trophy.

Only one thing is certain about what will happen in the postseason: The league will have a new champion in 2026. The Florida Panthers missed the playoffs after lifting the trophy two years ago and making the Finals the year before that, ensuring a changing of the guard this June.
The Colorado Avalanche were the class of the league during the regular season, capturing the Presidents Trophy by eight points over the Carolina Hurricanes, and should be considered the favorites. There are plenty of contenders, however, from the ‘Canes to the Buffalo Sabres, returning to the playoffs after a 14-year absence.
Still, there will be playoff hockey to watch every day for the next few weeks, and it doesn’t get much better than that.
