Como is eyeing a Juventus Cambiaso contract as more Italians are needed in Europe

Reports on Wednesday claim that Como are eyeing a potential transfer for Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso, as Cesc Fabregas’ side need more home-grown Italian talent to comply with UEFA’s squad list rules.

Como have already confirmed they will compete in another form of European competition in 2026-27, guaranteed to finish bottom of sixth in Serie A this season, although it remains to be seen whether they will secure a place in the Champions League, Europa League or Conference League next term.

Ahead of their first ever campaign in Europe, Como will likely have to bring in a few home-grown Italian players to comply with UEFA squad list rules.

UEFA rules state that teams are allowed to field a squad of up to 25 players from their ‘A’ list, and that at least eight of those players must be trained locally ie at home.

Como, however, have not fielded Italian players at all in 2025-26; their most visible homegrown talent is 32-year-old Edoardo Goldaniga, who has played just 104 minutes this season.

Como president Mirwan Suwarso recently admitted that the club hopes to add more Italian talents to their ranks: “We are always looking for more Italians. We bought four in our first Serie A season,” he said in a recent interview.

“The problem is that they are expensive and we cannot pay for them with investments. We are developing four or five Italian players who we hope will be ready for the first team. I like many of them Orsolini, Bastoni, Dimarco, but we cannot afford them. Venturino is also strong, like Cambiaghi and Pellegrini of Lazio.”

Can Como sign Cambiaso from Juventus?

According to Wednesday’s reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Como are interested in a potential deal for Cambiaso from Juventus, although this is not expected to be easy to pull off.

Como likes the versatility of Cambiaso, who can cover both sides of a full-back and a full-back, and feels that he is an experienced player in Serie A and the Champions League despite being 26 years old.

The Italian, however, is a starter for Juventus under former CT Luciano Spalletti, who has yet to include Cambiaso in his plans for next season according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Como believes that the coach and the club have different ideas, however. Juventus are expected to have a busy summer transfer window to give Spalletti a team capable of challenging for the 2026-27 Scudetto, but this means some current players may need to be sold to raise money for new signings.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, none other than perhaps Kenan Yildiz is considered truly ‘untransferable’ to Juventus if a suitable offer were to be found. Juventus may also be more likely to consider selling if they fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Cambiaso is not the only Italian player Como are eyeing. La Gazzetta dello Sport suggests that the aforementioned Cambiaghi could be a target for a fee in the region of 15 million euros. The Pink Paper says it would be impossible for Como to offer Cambiaso anything less than double.
