Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic hit 22 aces in a 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-2 first-round victory over Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova on Monday at the Adelaide International in Australia.
It was Vondrousova’s first match since losing in the first round at Wimbledon six months ago, followed by shoulder surgery in August. His previous career high for aces in a game was nine.
Daria Kasatkina of Russia, playing at number 3, defeated Olivia Gadecki of Australia 6-2, 6-3 and number 5 Paula Badosa of Spain won 6-7 (5), 6-3, 7-5 against Peyton Stearns. Also through to the second round are Ekaterina Alexandrova of Russia, Emerson Jones of Australia and Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan.

Colombia’s Camila Osorio breezed through the first round in Australia defeating China’s Yue Yuan 6-2, 6-3 6-2, 6-3.
Osorio saved eight of 10 points and ended the day’s only match involving a seeded player in 1 hour and 38 minutes.
Veronika Kudermetova of Russia won 7-5, 6-0 over Elisabetta Cocciaretto of Italy and Belgian Greet Minnen defeated Viktoriya Tomova of Bulgaria 7-5, 6-3. Maria Lourdes Carle of Argentina defeated Jessica Bouzas Maneiro of Spain 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 and Anna Bondar of Hungary won 7-5, 6-4 against Mayar Sherif of Egypt.
