Before the Chiefs game on Sunday, January 5 against the Denver Broncos, the official X team account posted a list of inactive players, including Kelce and a number of Chiefs starters.
“Our players in today’s game,” wrote the Chiefs, highlighting Kelce and his teammates, running backs. Isiah Pachecoa quarter Patrick Mahomesin the corner Trent McDuffiedefensive end George Karlaftistake it Jawaan Taylorand defensive warfare Chris Jones.
Why did the Chiefs decide to sit out so many players in the last game of the regular season? The reason for the decision is good – the 15-1 team already has home-field advantage and a first-round bye in the upcoming NFL playoffs. The Kings took over the No. 1 seed in the AFC on Christmas Day 2024, after defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers 29-10.

With Mahomes not starting, he’s the backup quarterback Carson Wentz was under center at Denver’s Empower Field at Mile High. While talking to reporters on Wednesday, January 1, the head coach Andy Reid he said he was “not worried” about his starters staying.
“I’ve been through it before, so I’m not worried about all that,” Reid explained at the time. “It gives the other guys a chance here to grow and you can use everybody.”
Reid, 66, added that “the main thing is to make sure we stay sharp in all areas this game and in the weeks to come.”
“We want to stay sharp in mind and body and it is our responsibility to do that and how we manage our time,” he added. “I make sure I do that in practice and guys go out, players and coaches, and work on that.”
Given that the Chiefs’ last game of the regular season was an away game and Kelce didn’t play, it didn’t come as much of a surprise to Swifties and NFL fans that the team’s girlfriend, Taylor Swifthe wasn’t there.
Rest assured that the pop star is likely to attend many of the team’s playoff games, especially since the road to the Super Bowl goes through Kansas City.
