Telegram started 2025 with a significant update that deepens its integration with the crypto ecosystem. As reported by TechCrunch, the messaging service has introduced NFT gift capabilities alongside third-party authentication.
Telegraph Launches New Crypto Feature
Traditionally, Telegram has provided verification of public figures and organizations to verify their presence on the platform. The latest update expands this space by enabling third-party entities—such as food quality regulators or educational organizations—to verify user accounts. This move aims to strengthen trust and reduce the spread of misinformation.
In Telegram’s own words, “This decentralized platform for additional authentication will help prevent fraud and reduce false information – with a unique solution that sets a new level of security for social networks.” Verified accounts will now have a different logo next to their name, replacing the usual blue marker, thus making them more clearly distinguishable.
Businesses interested in obtaining certification must go through a rigorous application process. “Individuals or organizations seeking verification will need to first be verified and complete an application to qualify for the verified mark,” Telegram explained in a blog post.
The Bot platform’s API facilitates the management of authentication scenarios, allowing organizations to grant or revoke authentication easily. Profiles verified under these third-party authorities will display the appropriate organization’s logo, enhancing their credibility and ensuring that users can identify authentic accounts.
In a new combination of crypto and social engagement, Telegram also unveiled the ability to convert gifts into Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). Users can buy Telegram Stars directly through the app or the Fragment site by linking their crypto wallets. These stars can then be used to send personalized gifts with custom backgrounds and icons, which can be made as NFTs.
“Users will be able to trade these NFTs on different platforms,” Telegram announced, emphasizing the interoperability of this new feature. To facilitate the blockchain transactions required for NFT creation, Telegram imposes a fee for developing gifts in collections. This move not only improves the user experience by adding a unique, marketable feature to gifting but also reinforces Telegram’s commitment to seamlessly integrating crypto functionality into its platform.
Beyond the key authentication and NFT gift features, the update introduces emoji reactions to service messages—such as welcoming new team members—and improved search filters for private chats, group chats, and channels.
Notably, Telegram has been actively working on crypto collaboration across various platform functions, including monetization for creators and facilitating payments for games and small applications. The introduction of third party verification and NFT offering further strengthens Telegram’s role in the evolving crypto landscape.
Telegram’s native cryptocurrency, Toncoin (TON), has seen a 5% increase in the last 24 hours, although it experienced a -22% drop in the last 29 days. The cryptocurrency maintains a market capitalization of 14.3 billion dollars and a trading volume of 165 million dollars (24 hours).
