Asadullah Galib scored a century for Sylhet on Day 2 of the fourth round match between Sylhet and Khulna Division in Bangladesh’s National Cricket League (NCL).
But more than his 242-run 115-ball knock, the lasting memory of his 382 minutes in the middle at the Cox’s Bazar Academy Ground will be the way he departed.
The incident occurred when Asadullah Galib faced Mahadi Hasan after scoring 115 runs, and his batting partner Amite Hasan scored 211 off 450 balls at which time the team was 465/3.
Mahadi Hasan ran to throw the ball and when he was moving the ball, it went out of his hand. The ball rose high into the sky. The camera saw Mahadi Hasan and non-striker Amite Hasan throw their backs to try to see where the ball was flying.
Meanwhile, the ball was moving slowly towards the batter.
Asadullah Galib, realizing that this was an informal delivery that could not be put into the stands, charged the track to get to it. He actually caught the ball as it came out of the middle of his bat and hit it.
His six-ball effort was however ill-conceived. The ball lacked pace on its own, so Asadullah Galib needed more power to hit it out of the park. The ball went up and landed well in the palms of
substitute Jawad Royen.
To make matters worse for Asadullah Galib, he fell behind his shot in an attempt to hit the ball out of the park.
