A 16-year-old boy has been arrested for allegedly placing a fence post on the Banda-Mahoba railway line, which caused disruption on Saturday, the police said.
The driver of the passenger train had to apply the emergency brakes to stop the train after seeing a concrete pillar on the track, police said.
The incident took place on Saturday afternoon when the driver of the passenger train informed the Railway Protection Force and the police about the disruption to the track, they said.
“A team of police and RPF arrived at the place and arrested the child. The child admitted that he was the one who placed the pole on the road,” said Circle Officer (CO) in the area Deepak Dubey.
The traffic on the line was cleared soon after the pillar was removed from the track, said a police officer.
A similar incident happened this morning in Ballia.
A railway engine hit a stone on the railway track in Bairia area on Saturday, officials said, adding that no damage was caused.
North Eastern Railway Public Relations Officer Ashok Kumar told PTI that on Saturday the pilot applied emergency brakes after spotting a stone.
