Uttar Pradesh CM meets relatives of death victim, offers Rs 10 lakh, free education to his children

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday met the family members of Mohit Pandey, a businessman, who died allegedly in police custody on October 26.

The Chief Minister ordered the officials to provide ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh, housing, free education for children, and access to various government schemes to the family of the deceased. He also assured the family that those who will be held responsible for his death will be severely punished.

“The family of the victim from Chinhat in Lucknow met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at his official residence on Monday. Bakshi Ka Talab Vidhan Sabha MLA Yogesh Shukla and district councilors were also present. The CM offered his condolences to the victim’s family and directed the officials concerned to provide immediate financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh, house, free education for the children and other government schemes to the family. In this hour of grief, the government of Uttar Pradesh stands in full solidarity with the victim’s family,” the State government’s statement read.

Meanwhile, the opposition party targeted the BJP government over the incident when Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav criticized the government.

“I wish that those who take life also give a life of compensation. Those who have extinguished the light of someone’s house on Deepavali, it is hoped that they will not light false lights, will not try to remove the deep darkness of their rule with false light. The public asks, will a bulldozer be used for someone who is guilty of death in custody? Damn it! [sic],” wrote Mr. Yadav, in X.

An FIRE has been registered against station house officer (SHO) Ashwani Chaturvedi of Chinhat police station, unidentified policemen and two civilians for murder and criminal conspiracy. The SHO has been suspended.
