Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy on Wednesday (September 25, 2024) said that the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi should study the history and understand the various development works of Maharaja Hari Singh, instead of insulting him.

“He used words like ‘Maharaja Hari Singh was thrown out’…’Maharaja Hari Singh ran away’. It is a shame that he chose September 23, which is Maharaja Hari Singh’s birthday, to insult him saying that kings never care about their people,” said Mr. Reddy.

The Union Minister said that every family in the district has a picture of Maharaja Hari Singh as they respect the good development and reforms that he initiated. , and language. He keeps saying that the Lieutenant-Governor is an outsider. How many governors in J&K (Jammu and Kashmir) and across India did the Congress party appoint and how many households are in the same State?,” asked Mr. Reddy.

“How come Rahul Gandhi looks at LG as an outsider but Indian-born Sonia Gandhi can be a Member of Parliament, president of Congress party for two decades, Member of National Advisory Council, and de facto leader of UPA government…this clearly shows that Rahul Gandhi is treating J&K as a part of India and this is the language of separatists,” he said.

Mr. Reddy said that of the 15 governors and lieutenant-governors appointed so far, eight leaders are from the Congress, five from the BJP and two people from other parties. In these positions, none of them except Dr. Karan Singh who was home to J&K. The Union Minister asked Mr. Gandhi that there was an open debate about the achievements of the BJP in the last 10 years and that of the Congress in J&K over 60 years.

“In the last 10 years, there has been a change in Jammu and Kashmir in all areas from health, education, and infrastructure to social welfare. The poor benefit from toilets in their homes, they are provided with free grains, drinking water, and gas cylinders and the homeless are also given houses,” he said.

He accused Mr. Gandhi for downplaying the role of Leader of the Opposition once held by the likes of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, LK Advani, Sushma Swaraj, and Ghulam Nabi Azad.
